Notifications
Notifications for mail, events and tasks, Do not disturb, permission on the iPhone, and what Letos can't do yet.
On this page
You set everything in Settings → Notifications. At the top is the master switch Notifications — when it’s off, no notification arrives. The hours, the mail notification scope, Do not disturb and the event reminder lead time sync across devices. The switches (the master switch, the categories, sound) are set on each device separately.
- Notify about mail: All new mail, Only from people (no newsletters or automated senders) (default) or Only from selected addresses. Mail is never hidden — this only changes what Letos interrupts you for.
- VIP senders: with Only from selected addresses you enter the Selected addresses (one per line). You can also mark a sender right on a message with the star (Mark sender as VIP; undo it with Remove sender from VIP). There is one list, and it syncs across your devices. Mail from VIP senders gets through even in Do not disturb. A sender address can be forged, so this does not guarantee the message really came from them. On desktop the Inbox also has a VIP only filter. VIP hides and moves nothing, it only widens what Letos interrupts you for.
- At most how often to notify about mail: right away, or once every 5 minutes (default), 15 minutes or an hour. The first message after a quiet spell arrives right away; the next ones are collected into a single summary notification.
- Show the start of the message: off (default) shows only the sender and subject.
- Thread reminders (see Mail) come under the same category.
Events
- Event reminders on this device — turned on separately on each device.
- Remind about an event how many minutes ahead — 0 to 180 minutes, default 10.
Details in Calendar.
Tasks
- Remind about triage at what hour — default 9:00.
- If triage doesn’t happen, remind again — default 20:00, or Don’t remind. It only fires if untriaged tasks really remain.
- Remind about today’s tasks at what hour — default 16:00.
- Default due-date reminders — At the due time (default), 30 min before, 1 h before, 1 day before. With nothing selected, no due-date reminders are sent. Each task can override this.
- Open the morning overview automatically — once a day, inside the morning window: after the triage hour and at most three hours past it (with the default 9:00 that means 9:00–11:59), it shows the morning overview with today’s events and tasks. When the app isn’t in the foreground, a Today’s plan notification arrives instead. Outside that window the overview doesn’t open by itself and the day stays unclaimed, so the next morning fires normally.
Do not disturb and sound
- Do not disturb (Quiet hours) — during the set window (default 22:00–7:00) notifications aren’t shown. Mail keeps downloading and the unread count keeps updating. Off by default.
- Notification sound — the system sound, or silent.
Dynamic Island and Lock Screen (iPhone)
On an iPhone with iOS 18 or later, Letos has two Live Activities:
- Focus — a task countdown with a Done button. You start it yourself in a task’s detail, see Tasks.
- Meeting countdown — before a meeting with a video-call link, with a Join button. Turn it on in Settings → Notifications → Dynamic Island and Lock Screen → Meeting countdown (on by default, per device). It appears only when you have Letos open during the last 15 minutes before the start, see Calendar.
Everything runs on the phone only; nothing is sent to a server. The Lock Screen shows the task or meeting title. Turn all Live Activities off in iOS Settings → Letos → Live Activities.
Permission (iPhone and Mac)
The system must allow notifications too. The System permission section shows whether it does, and Allow notifications asks for it.
On the iPhone Letos asks itself: once the setup wizard is done, a Want to hear about new mail? card appears with Turn on and Not now. The permission is only requested when you tap Turn on; Not now won’t bring the card back on this device. If you decline, Letos stays quiet — turn notifications on later in iOS Settings → Letos → Notifications.
Tapping a notification opens the e-mail, event or task it’s about.
When notifications arrive
Mail and task notifications mainly arrive while Letos is running. On the iPhone, Letos occasionally wakes up in the background and checks for new mail then too, but the system decides when — there’s no guarantee. Event reminders on the iPhone are scheduled by the system itself, so they arrive even when the app is closed.
Coming
- Coming Email notifications — due-date reminders and the morning overview by e-mail, voluntary and with your consent. They’re prepared in the app but not switched on yet.
- Coming Action buttons right in the notification, and notifications that arrive on the computer even when the app is closed.
