AI in Letos is optional. Until you turn it on, you won’t see any AI button and nothing is sent anywhere. This guide shows how to turn it on while keeping your content under control.
1. Choose a provider
Open Settings → AI → Provider:

Recommendation: on a Mac with Apple Silicon, start with the local model — the text of your e-mails and tasks then never leaves the computer.
2. Turn on the local model (Mac)
- Choose Local model (on this device).
- Letos downloads the model once from Hugging Face (about 5 GB).
- Done — the model runs right inside Letos, with no internet.
AI doesn’t run on the iPhone. If you want it, enter your own OpenAI-compatible endpoint, model and API key.
3. Or enter your own API key
For Claude API, OpenAI API or a custom endpoint, paste your key. In the computer and iPhone apps it’s stored only in the system keychain and isn’t synced. In the web version it’s stored encrypted on the Letos server (it asks for consent).
4. Consent to sending content
For any provider outside your device, Letos first asks with one shared consent, Send data off this device: to whom, what is sent and why.
- Allow — the consent covers this provider.
- Decline — nothing is sent and the feature stays off.
- Close (Esc) — not a decision; you’ll be asked next time.
Our sync server never sees AI content — it goes straight from your device to the provider. Change the decision any time in Settings → Privacy.
5. Try your first feature
With AI on, ✨ buttons appear, for example:
- Mail: Summarize thread, Write with AI, Suggest quick replies.
- Tasks: Suggest subtasks, Capture from free text.
- Goals: Plan with AI turns a goal into a concrete plan.
AI never sends or deletes anything on its own. You always review and confirm the suggestion.
